It isn’t new – this idea of the world being turned up-side down. World Turned Up-side Down We have talked about it here. Others have written about this as well.
If buttercups buzz’d after the bee,
If boats were on land, churches on sea,
If ponies rode men and if grass ate the cows,
And cats should be chased into holes by the mouse,
If the mamas sold their babies
To the gypsies for half a crown;
If summer were spring and the other way round,
Then all the world would be upside down.
The apostle Paul and those with him were said to have done this when they preached the gospel:
Acts 17:6 …These who have turned the world up-side down have come here, too.
Paul, Jason and those men with them were doing a good thing.
The Bible mentions another kind of ‘up-side down’ thinking, however, that isn’t good. It is mentioned first in Isaiah:
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20
Malachi 2:17 You have wearied the LORD with your words; Yet you say, “In what way have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights in them,” Or, “Where is the God of justice?”
Unfortunately, this latter kind of up-side down thinking is what has become the problem in today’s world.
In America, we are calling ‘evil’ good. We have arrived at a place where tax-payers are being required to cover the cost for people (even those who are unmarried) to safely engage in sexual conduct. Those who require this of tax-payers are called ‘good‘. Those who do not want to pay are considered ‘evil’. If they were ‘good’ people they would understand that all people have a ‘basic civil right’ to do as they please and have the cost covered by the workers in society. Any worker or politician who resists paying (especially if one resists for biblical reasons) has joined the ranks of the ‘evil’ in today’s America.
This is the up-side down world we find ourselves in today.
