Imagine a world where dissent is forbidden. Imagine a world where only one point of view is allowed. This may be where we are headed, but we are not there yet.

Darwin’s Dilemma is a video presentation that teaches how,  according to geo-years, there was a rapid appearance of dozens of major complex animal types in the fossil record during what is called the Cambrian period. The interesting part, and what is lacking during this period, are the gradual transitional steps Charles Darwin wrote about.

The topic is certainly interesting. One might think that those who disagree with what is presented in the video would be all too eager to have it shown and use it as an opportunity to teach what they think are the errors found there. Not so, according to the Discovery Institute who say that…

The Darwin anniversary year is almost over, but Darwinists have been working overtime trying to censor free speech on evolution and intelligent design. Incredibly, they now are even trying to stop privately-sponsored events about intelligent design!

While most people equate ID with creation, there are some differences and while creation requires an intelligent designer, ID does not require a Biblical explanation.

Throughout mankind’s history,  scientist have reached differing conclusions while looking at the same or similar data and while studying life on planet earth. Many who have been ridiculed and mocked have later been found to be correct. The scientific community is seldom in complete agreement. One thing that has been helpful to mankind has been man’s willingness to listen to and consider other ideas and/or theories. Tolerance isn’t always practiced, however, in the world of scientific discovery certainly there should be room for dissent. When a group is unwilling to allow dissent, the big “elephant in the room” is the question, “Why not?”

The liberal democrats did not take very long to declare Mike Huckabee out of the running for 2012. They say they believe that his commuting the sentence of Maurice Clemmons rules out his chances for the presidency. 

Mike is a stand-up guy. He is not afraid to talk to reporters and he takes tough questions. The two judges who helped put Maurice Clemmons on the streets, well I cannot say the same for them.

There will always be those who probably should have been locked up, but weren’t, those who should have remained free, but didn’t, and those who turned their lives around after having a sentence commuted.

While watching a report on Fox recently I learned that scientist believe that within a few years people will be able to surf the internet without touching a keyboard or mouse. Those who are willing to have a chip implanted within the brain will simply think about where they want to go and the computer will respond. Sound impossible?

The explanation given was so simple that even a I am able to comprehend at least the general idea of what will happen. It seems that research has uncovered the fact that when we purposefully ‘think’ about doing a certain thing, a portion of our brain reacts the same as if we are actually performing the action.

Is this similar to what Jesus is describing here:

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.  Matthew 5:28

Perhaps this brain activity isn’t what Jesus is referring to, but Jesus certainly knows all about man. Some will most likely say that this is a stretch to say that Jesus knew the power of our thought processes. I say that it isn’t a stretch at all.  He created man and He:

had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man. John 2: 25

He always knew and knows what we are and what we are capable of doing. Nothing takes Him by surprise:

… God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 1 John 3:20

Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You.      2 Chronicles 29: 13-14

When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you. Deuteronomy 9:10

First Thanksgiving Proclamation

Should Christians be political? This question has troubled me a great deal since the last election.

Matthew does record Christ words when he tells his disciples:

Behold , I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16

But Jesus tells us in Matthew 16:3 that:

… ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

and He admonishes His own in the book of Matthew 24:42:

 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Our first concern must be in readiness for His return. The Word leaves no doubt about this truth.

How much concern then should be given to life on earth and to future generations? We are told to go forth bearing precious seed. The seed is the word of God. Tom Whitsett reminded those who attended the services at Westside yesterday that seed in a bag on a shelf in a garage will not sprout, and yet, seed planted in soil will invariably sprout. Good seed will even break concrete to push its way upward to the light.

Should we not then conclude that Christians are not to be idle, and yet our primary activity isn’t to reform this world when we consider that:

… for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished . Isaiah 51:6 

Certainly some people may be called to serve God in a political capacity, but I do not believe any Christian is to serve the state or that we are called to reform the government. Christians are to be bondservants to Christ.  When Christ calls a person to serve Him in a political capacity then He will empower them to do that job just as He empowers any of His children to do any other job.

Too often I allow myself to get caught up in the temporal when all that really matters is the eternal.

Amendment 28

Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the

United States.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments,
which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate. 

 

The Heritage Foundation  would be a good starting point.  The idea of amending our constitution would have to become a grassroots movement. The above amendment would need to be scrutinized by lawers who are experts in constitutional law.

Another question needs to asked: If we are going to have something of this magnitude happen in our country, is the above issue the most important issue that should be considered?  For some time now, those in favor of the fair tax have wanted to amend our constitution to do away with the IRS and make a much more equitable and safe tax the law of the land.  The Fair Tax book was written by Neal Boortz and John Linder. I am personally in favor of the fair tax idea, but realize that it is going to take national grassroots support. Currently, the so-called “health care reform” ruckus has kept Americans from focusing on correcting our broken tax system.

With any amendment we must ask, “What sort of political fallout would occur due to this action?” Still, something must be done if we are going to continue to be a governed by the people rather than by a body of legislators who do not live under the same laws that they create.

An email is circulating that cautions Americans on what should and should not be expected when a census worker arrives at your door. Among other things that should not be done is giving out your social security number or banking information. 

Certainly we should all be certain that the person is legitimate, before allowing them access to our home and/or information. I searched the official website and the only thing available, as far as I can tell, are phone numbers to call with questions.  If there is an official identification badge or paper, I did not find it.

The email writer goes on to say that the only information required by law to be answered is the number of people living in your household. Because I have heard otherwise, I did a little looking around for more information on the subject.

According to the US Census Bureau, we are required by law to answer the questions regardless of how invasive we feel the questions are:

Do I have to answer the ACS questions?Yes. Response to this survey is required by law (Section 221 of Title 13 ).

According to Rep. Bachmann from Minnesota, this just isn’ true.

There are a few sample questions available on-line. Some people will receive longer and more invasive surveys than others.

One question that will not be asked is your status as to whether you are  legal or illegal.  This invades privacy, but asking about your salary for the past ten years doesn’t??

Many people have become concerned about the census due to the White House taking over this project and because ACORN was to be involved. Is ACORN still involved? Probably not under the name ACORN, but possibly under a different acronym.

 Other thoughts on the constitutionality of the lengthy census form are:

Our Constitution is written in clear, understandable English. Consider the census provision. “The [first] actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States [March, 1789], and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they [Congress] shall by Law direct.” This allows Congress to count us, but only count us. The operative word, “Enumeration.”

How then can we help Congress? By giving census officials your name and address, thereby counting you, but nothing more. By doing this simple task, you assist Congress and census officials fulfill their oath-taken duties “to support this Constitution.”

We have agreed to be counted but the license ends there. With our consent Congress is authorized to count us for one purpose: to apportion among the states, as a function of population, the number of House representatives who will then speak for / represent the people on federal matters. That’s it. As to senators, the representatives for the states, no apportionment/enumeration scheme is necessary because no variable is involved: each state is entitled to two senators regardless of demographic or geographical size (“The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State”). These provisions are the result of the delegates’ debates on representation and their final agreement, often referenced as the Great (or Sherman’s) Compromise.

This post is not indicating or suggesting what anyone should or should not do when responding to census questions.

The question has arisen, “Is Glenn Beck the new Oprah?”

Perhaps there are some similarities, but only in popularity in my humble opinion. Glenn is hated by those who have never watched his show and loved by many who do watch.  Oprah is generally loved by everyone. Glenn has a political show. Oprah has a talk show that features Americans. It isn’t necessarily political, but always informative.

This week, Glenn did a show on black conservatives in America.  He did what I think turned out to be a great show, he invited conservative, successful Americans who happened to be black to appear on his show.  The show was excellent and I found myself wishing all the Glenn Beck haters would tune in just for this one show, if not everyday. 

I agree with a comment that I heard on the show. One gentleman stated that he is an “American”. He objects to the “African American” reference so often used by our society. I could not agree more with what he had to say.

My family heritage is Scottish, English, and Native American.  No one ever uses all these national titles to refer to me. Why should we use the term ‘African’ Americans? Americans come in all colors. We come from countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. We are all Americans and labels tend to divide us.

Galatians 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Among the many thoughts Mr. Guthrie placed in a letter to Nancy Pelosi was the following statement:

Don’t ever use the term “un-American” again for protesters who love this country and are exercising their rights upon which this country was founded.

This letter from D. Guthrie was confirmed as authentic by Truth or Fiction site.

I concur with most of what Mr. Guthrie has written. Democrats seem to have no idea what is in store for them in the next two elections. If they did, they would probably legislate in a completely different way.

The mistake that Obama and the Democrats in congress have made is the mistake of thinking they were elected to push through a far left agenda. Americans voted as they did for three basic reasons:

1. Many were angry at the Republican party and the big spending that went on in Congress.

2. Others were disappointed in their candidate. John McCain is a war hero, but most Republicans wanted a more conservative candidate.

3. ACORN and other groups pulled many people out to vote who had never voted before and who had no real knowledge about Barack Obama. The media certainly did not vet him and those who do not keep up with political decisions and seek out media that digs for facts had no idea who they voted for. Many just knew that he is younger, black, and charismatic. This seemed to be enough for many first time voters to decide to vote for him.

A fourth reason that he received as many votes as he did is the corruption found in some states. I do think he would probably have won without the stolen votes, but who can be certain?

Regardless of the past, Americans are waking up and the majority are not happy with what they find. Mr. Guthrie’s letter speaks for many of us.

This cartoon really interested me. Being alive in 1948, I am surprised that the same issues were relevant then.  When did capitalism first come under attack in this country? The battle we are now fighting was begun long ago. It seems to me that until now we just never elected a president who doesn’t believe capitalism is a good thing.
