Prayer of Repentance – November 19, 2010

Again I want to apologize for the video I posted yesterday. I watched over 1/2 of it, thought it was funny and posted it to my blog. Then yesterday afternoon I watched the rest and saw that the last 1/2 was inappropriate. I won’t do that again. Please forgive me. I hope no one was offended. My commitment is for this site to be something that honors the Lord and blesses the reader.

Word for Today

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:14-16

In America, I fear that we have become desensitized to sin. Are we so desensitized that often we allow our children to be exposed to vileness and debauchery without even noticing that it is happening? How many times do we cheat on things that save us a few pennies not realizing that it is our souls that we are selling?

How many Americans afford all sorts of gadgets with which to sin while allowing tax payers or someone else to pick up the tab for their children’s needs? How many fail to even realize they have slipped deeply into sin?

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good, but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’

This prayer has been attributed to Joe Wright, Paul Harvey, and Billy Graham. I do not know who wrote the prayer, but certainly this should be a prayer for all Americans.

Just for Fun

Joel Hendon has written a great article about the Whippoorwill. I borrowed the picture from his site, and I hope you visit the site to read about the Whippoorwill andother interesting articles he has written. He also has many good pictures there.

Sound of a Whippoorwill

Political Point

Jay Rockefeller wants the government to shut down Fox News & MSNBC. I believe that MSNBC was tacked on as a simple-minded effort attempting to cause Rockefeller to appear bipartisan. Who watches MSNBC? How many Americans watch Fox? Will America allow this to happen? Do we want to have a government that controls our news media? Would Jay Rockefeller suggest this if his political party had won in 2010?
