Oregon College Cancels Course, Fires the Professor, After Protest from CAIR

A Community College in Eugene, Oregon recently canceled a class and fired the professor after CAIR protestors contacted college officials and complained.

CAIR is the Council on American Islamic Relations. Senator Charles Schumer (Democrat, New York) describes it as an organization “which we know has ties to terrorism. Many people are upset that an American college caves to pressure from this organization.

Barry Sommer was scheduled to begin teaching a non-credit course next month entitled: “What is Islam?” at LCC.  The class was designed to provide a basic understanding of Islamic doctrines so that students could make informed decisions based on unbiased and current information.

No statement could be found at the web-site of Lane Community College, however, this was found on ew! blog:

The human rights group Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), a program of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), today called on LCC to reinstate Barry Sommer’s class on Islam, according to a press release (Dec. 8) from PRNewsire in New York City.

Act for America is dedicated to informing Americans about the dangers of militant Muslim fundamentalism.

Jay Sekulow at ‘American Center for Law and Justice’ has agreed to represent Mr. Sommer in the case. Donations to help Sommer can be made at the ACLJ web-site.
