Until now, I have felt that the Obama administration was at least acting in good faith, just a little incompetently, in dealing with Egypt. I no longer feel this to be true.
Something is seriously amiss here. For our National Intelligence Director to call the Muslim Brotherhood a secular group who pursue social ends, shows incompetency, but I do not believe Clapper is incompetent.
It is my opinion that the Obama administration MUST speak out and denounce what has been said by James Clapper OR the American people must realize that we have a president who doesn’t plan on protecting our country, or our allies, from the threat of radicalism.
James Clapper not only called Egypt’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood movement “largely secular.” He went on to say:
“The term ‘Muslim Brotherhood’…is an umbrella term for a variety of movements, in the case of Egypt, a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam,” Clapper said. “They have pursued social ends, a betterment of the political order in Egypt, et cetera…..
This is outrageous. We have the leaders of the movement announcing their intentions and peace isn’t one of them.
Sadly the Obama administration quickly denounced the use of the term “secular” by James Clapper, but have yet to deal with the claim that they “eschew violence”.
Obama has used the violence and the protest in Egypt to encourage American students to seek change. It seems obvious that he is attempting to equate his supporters with the protesters in Egypt, but it does seem a little shallow and even stupid, if you ask me. Would he not be the equivalent of Mubarak in that scenario?
Just what point is Obama trying to make? I can think of several ways he may be trying to influence the young, but none of them seem right. In American, we have free elections that allow citizens to decide at the ballot box what changes they desire to put in place.
We do not encourage change by violent protest, do we Mr. President?
