Occupy Wall Street and the Truth About the 99%

I am not sure if it was Joseph Goebbel or Adolf Hitler who said, “If you repeat a lie often enough it will be accepted as truth.” That is what is being done with the use of 99% and 1%. These are not true statistics, yet a movement is being based on these numbers. Ninety-nine percent of the citizens of America are not dissatisfied and wanting to see the demise of capitalism. Ninety-nine percent of Americans do not identify with the unions and the belief that middle class Americans deserve more. Not all Americans believe that entitlements will solve the problems we have in this country.

I cannot see a good  outcome for our country from Occupy Wall Street. Just because something is accepted as truth, doesn’t make it true.  Greed is greed whether it is corporate greed or middle American greed. While many who have never been cold, never been hungry and never been without medical care take off weeks from getting a college degree, or from a job, the starving in Sudan and elsewhere continue to starve.

My gut feeling tells me that something is wrong here.

Imagine if those who are protesting week after week should spend one week working to feed the hungry around the world. Even one week-end of work from every participate could do much toward ending world hunger.

I am not against protesting when conditions warrant such measures. I do believe that when we take time off from our jobs to protest another person’s wealth, we need to do some soul-searching. Perhaps our  time and money could be better spent.

Someone suggested on Facebook that the 99% are the percentage of people who have not benefited from tax loop holes, trade agreements, & campaign financing or that the 1%have benefited at the expense of the 99%. Do you agree with this? If the 1% are corrupt as is being said, why would the 99% want to benefit as they have? Just wondering…
