This video was reportedly taken when occupiers attempted to enter Rahm Emanuel’s office to demand the right to occupy Grant Park indefinitely. Businesses in the area are beginning to suffer from the disruption as the crowd grows and more and more protesters join the organized protest.
Those of us on the outside looking in wonder what these people are thinking. The man in the video wants a revolution similar to the upheaval in Egypt when Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was overthrown and a military council took over the nation.
Here is what is so hard to understand. When Egypt is compared to the USA by per capita income Egypt has $5,046 and the USA $47, 184.
In the US, 67.4% of all occupied housing units are occupied by the unit’s owner. In Egypt, according to what I am able to determine, only about 20% of their middle class own their own homes.
We have had free elections since the conception of our nation. Elections here have maintained a high degree of integrity. Egypt, however, is an authoritarian state rife with human rights violations and rigged elections. According to all reports, for the last 30 years, President Hosni Mubarak had been “elected” with massive majorities. Parliamentary elections were routinely pre-fixed as well.
America is a nation that has helped the impoverished around the world with foreign aid. We have doctors, nurses and teams of volunteers who routinely go into less fortunate countries to give medical care and aid to those in need.
How could any of our citizens believe that we would be better off if our government collapsed or if our people experienced a bloody revolution? Why would an American citizen make such a statement?
The Bible tells us that in the last days, perilous times will come:
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:2-5
