Americans need to be united. We are the United States of America. We need to stand up for one another and check out political action committees, politicians, news organizations, and even presidents.
We definitely need a president who doesn’t lie. We need to remember that it isn’t just conservatives or “our” side being lied to. Lies affect everyone. I try to remember to not feel bad toward people who believe lies. They are not the liars. They are simply deceived. I suspect we have all at one time or another been taken in by a liar.
President Barack Obama blamed Fox News for his political woes in a private meeting with labor leaders in 2010, saying he was “losing white males” who tune into the cable outlet and “hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7,” according to journalist David Corn’s new book, “Showdown.”
How many people will watch Fox News to learn if they are telling people that Obama is a Muslim? How many people believe that this is their programming 24/7? When I watch TV News, it is usually Fox and I have never heard anyone who is employed by Fox state that he is a Muslim or even that they believe he is a Muslim. I have heard them state the opposite.
I searched YouTube for ‘Obama is a Muslim’ videos. It pulled up many clips taken from many sources. I found more clips taken from CNN than any other source. Of course the same clip is used multiple times. Sources used were CNN, ABC, NBC, Sam Seder Majority, MEMRI, and Manning Report. IF many people believe Obama is a Muslim, could this be why? Much of the time, the clips are edited speeches of Obama. To find a clip from Fox of a person saying anything about whether or not Obama is or isn’t a Muslim I had to put in ‘Obama is a Muslim, Fox News’. Most of these were from the controversy over the Mosque at Ground Zero. If you watch, the Fox News contributors say he is a Christian.
One Fox video is here and the commentator is quoting Time Magazine:
It seems to me that YouTube videos may be the reason some people think Obama is a Muslim or perhaps it is Obama’s actions and words.
Americans would be more united without Presidents or writers making such statements.
Another example of words that divide us was heard recently when Rush Limbaugh accused Obama of lying by saying this:
The Obama administration consistently lied about its efforts at compromise during the failed debt-ceiling negotiations, Rush Limbaugh said Monday, pointing to a Washington Post article that depicted President Barack Obama himself as the biggest obstacle to compromise.
The Post article published Sunday revealed that House Republicans, led by Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, were more than willing to compromise, proposing $800 billion in new taxes. Obama’s rejection of the offer even shocked congressional Democrats such as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
“What this story points out is that Obama purposefully, intentionally lied to the American people when he told us that the Republicans were not interested in raising taxes, that they wanted a cuts-only solution to the debt crisis,” Limbaugh said during his talk-radio show Monday.
“It turns out that John Boehner and Eric Cantor had indeed offered $800 billion in tax increases. Obama just lied. He just flat out lied to the American people about the Republicans and their position in the debt negotiations. Flat-out lied.”
Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reluctantly went along with the administration against their initial instincts, the article revealed.
Those on the left may believe Washington Post writers, Peter Wallsten, Lori Montgomery, and Scott Wilson, are lying. Those on the right may believe Obama is lying, but clearly someone is lying. Some will, of course, say it is Rush who is misreading the Post editorial.
On this one, I think Rush and Obama are both causing trouble and playing politics. It is true that Boehner tried to compromise, so ‘yes’, Obama is technically lying. It is also true that some Republicans would not compromise, so technically Obama is telling the true. We need to be clear and explain the situation rather than using a situation to inflame American citizens against one another!
I think Obama is right when he says we need civility in our language and rhetoric. Wouldn’t you love to see a campaign where every ad is a positive and truthful message?
