There is a post on Michael’s Blog entitled ‘Feeling Sorry for the President’ that is a must read for those interested in what is happening politically and spiritually in this country. Michael Youssef is a hero who stands with Christ regardless of the personal cost. Michael A Youssef
There are others who have spoken out in times past and became heroes. Chapter six of Erwin Lutzer’s book, When A Nation Forgets God, is entitled, Ordinary Heroes Can Make a Difference.
Dr. Lutzer writes:
But if Christians are silent at our universities for fear of being disgraced; if believers are intimidated at work because of new laws that might keep religion out of the workplace, if a Christian nurse is silent about abortion because to speak out would put her job in jeopardy, in short, if we keep Christ to ourselves out of fear of reprisals, are we not taking our stand with those pastors in Germany who chose to close ranks with Hitler? Is not our sin even greater since the consequences of our obedience to Christ are so minimal in comparison with what they faced? pg 120, When A Nation Forgets God.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a hero who gave his life during Hitler’s regime. Bonhoeffer stated that “Cheap grace is the deadly enemy of our Church.“
The prophet Jeremiah wrote to God’s people:
If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? Jeremiah 12:5
Today, in the U.S.A., we stand to lose little when we speak out for Christ and for the faith. If we cannot take a stand today, we certainly will not be ready for tomorrow. Every day policies are being written, laws formulated, and plans made to silence all opposition. Today is the best day to speak. Tomorrow the penalty will be more severe.
