Townhall sent a link to NRSC, National Republican Senatorial Committee, that bothers me. The group is suggesting that now is the time to recall Harry Reid.
This is a bad idea!
Be assured that I am NOT a fan of Harry Reid and I think he did tremendous damage to this country when he pushed, along with other legislation, Obamacare through the senate. Just this morning I heard how local libraries will be laying off workers because of funds being cut due to increasing cost of health care for workers. This is a direct result of this disastrous legislation that went against the will of the American people.
Even so, I do not support a recall election. The people of Nevada, however misguided they may have been, elected Harry Reid to represent them. Unless he has committed or commits an impeachable offense, he should serve out his term.
Should he be impeached for what he did with Obamacare? What do you think? Here is what the Constitution states as grounds for impeachment:
The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Bribery happens in Washington D.C. on a fairly regular basis. It is renamed, of course and very difficult to prove. If Harry Reid should be impeached for this crime, then probably two-thirds of Congress would have to go.
My personal opinion is that we need a good house cleaning at the polls and term limits put in place. Recalling our elected officials for political revenge is a very bad idea and should not happen. Impeachment should be reserved for provable treason and crimes. Voters need to require candidates to be transparent with a background that proves they are men and women of integrity. When we as voters do our jobs, these situations will seldom arise.
