The Power of One – What will happen when each ‘one’ reaches ‘one’?

Barbara Palilis is a person who thinks beyond her own circle of friends. She considers those who cannot have friends because of disabilities. She began a program that pairs students with disabilities with non-disabled peers for lunch dates and other social activities in order to give the disabled child an opportunity to experience closeness with others.

The direction for this post came from David McCasland who writes for Our Daily Bread.

David is one man who impacts lives by writing devotionals that reach millions of people across our nation and around the world. Barbara touches lives by helping the disabled ‘one’ life at a time.

Brian Mullaney and Charles B. Wang are two men who have impacted the lives of many children. They have done something that few are able to to do. They have truly transformed these lives through an organization called Smile Train. Smile Train provides free cleft lip and palate surgery for hundreds of thousands of children around the world. Children who might have otherwise gone through life with a facial deformity so severe that others shun the beautiful person inside now live full lives because of the vision of Brian and Charles. There is a picture on their site of the first child who was helped by Smile Train. This ‘one’ recently married.

Proverbs 29:18 tells us that:

Where there is no vision, the people perish:

There are stories all around us of lives changed because of the vision and work of a single person.

Ayad Girgis, pastor of the Free Methodist Church in Assiut, Egypt in 1948 touched at least ‘one’ life. What he did by touching that ‘one’ life, however, subsequently, touched millions around the world.

Pastor Girgis prayed and then followed the direction he felt the Lord was leading him. He went to the home of one of his church members who was expecting a baby. The doctors had advised the woman to abort her child because she was in poor health. She had contacted the pastor. Pastor Girgis at first suggested she follow her doctors recommendation, but then said she and he should pray about the matter. Almost immediately the pastor contacted the mother and told her she should go through with the pregnancy. He added, “I sense that this ‘one’ will serve God’s purpose.” A few months later, Michael Youssef was born.

Jesus said in John:

John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Life is precious and there is much to be done, but it gets done by one person doing one thing. We may help only one person or we may ultimately help millions, but Christ is interested in the one. The results will be left to Him. When we treat each ‘one’ as precious in His sight, the millions follow.
