What loopholes does Obama want closed and who is actually qualified to decide what is “right”?

Barack Obama spoke on Monday telling Americans how bad Sequestration is going to hurt America  and he said:

“Let’s be clear. It is happening because of a choice Republicans in Congress have made. They have allowed these cuts to happen because they refuse to budge on closing a single wasteful loophole to help reduce the deficit.”

Since he places the blame on Republicans, I think it is only fair that we examine this statement made by Obama.

Obama failed to mention that in December he turned down a plan offered by Republicans that proposed $800 billion in deficit savings through tax reform, including an unspecified amount of revenue raised by eliminating tax deductions and loopholes.

When President Obama talks about increasing revenue he never mentions that when businesses, large and small, grow and prosper it broadens the tax base and tax revenues increase. I wonder if he even realizes this. (Also, I wonder if students in our high schools and colleges are being taught this principle.)

Throughout the speech, and I listened to the entire speech, Obama kept referring to what he wants as “the right thing” and stating that Republicans refuse to do ‘the right thing’. He would not say  what “loophole” he wants to close that Republicans refuse to close or acknowledge that there are those who think the right thing is to cut spending rather than increase revenue. He also never mentions that what he means by increasing revenue is actually taking more money from the private sector than we are already taking to fund over-spending in the public sector and that some people of integrity believe this to be “the wrong thing” to do.

Personally, I know we would benefit from having someone who has succeeded in business teaching those who have never owned a business more about how to govern in this area. Dr. Ben Carson had some great ideas on how to improve health care. There are experts on finance and economics in our society just as there are experts in medicine and health care. Our leaders need to listen to these experts.

A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel…Proverbs 1:3

My opinion is that when a president uses the office to portray himself and his ideas as ‘right’ and portray a large group of the American people who disagreement with him over an issue such as spending and/or taxing as ‘wrong’, he is poisoning the waters and making a climate that is unhealthy for everyone concerned.
