Praying Across America

Recently, while worshiping at Lindsey Lane Baptist Church in Athens, AL I learned about an event called Praying Across Alabama.

While I do not necessarily agree with the politics of our leadership in Washington D.C., President Obama seemed genuinely interested in doing the “right thing” recently while speaking to the American people. Many in Congress seem interested in “doing the right thing.” Ask almost any American and they will tell you that they want what is ‘right’ for America.

Our problem is that we, in the flesh, do not always know what is right and there are disagreements all around. The president disagrees with Congress. Democrats disagree with Republicans. Division is all around us. But there is good news and that good news is this. We, as a Christian nation, (and I believe the majority of the people in this country still believe Christ is the answer) have access to the One who does know what is ‘right’. God wants us to do the “right thing”. Proverbs 13:34 tells us that: Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

  • IF MY PEOPLE

Alphabetically, Alabama comes first in our nation. These people are from the Bible belt. These are Christian people. They have begun this endeavor. Let us join them and make this a national effort to PRAY ACROSS AMERICA. Pray that the Lord will show us the good and right way for our nation.

  • WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME…

Sometimes, especially since the internet has allowed us to be anonymous, we are more unkind to one another than we would be in person. Personally, I want to try harder to remember the words of Paul to Titus when he wrote that we “speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”

  • WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND PRAY AND SEEK MY FACE, AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS,

We have to face a hard fact. When a nation is divided on an issue,  some will be wrong. We cannot all be right all of the time. Admitting that we have been wrong is not an easy thing, but that is what humbling ourselves involves. It means me, admitting when I am wrong. It means each of us doing this. If we pray, asking the Lord to show us our own failings where we are wrong and then are willing to admit our mistakes, and turn from them (repent) God promises a great reward:

  • THEN I WILL HEAR FROM HEAVEN, AND WILL FORGIVE THEIR SIN AND HEAL THEIR LAND. 2 CHRONICLES 7:14

Imagine the revival that will then occur in the USA. It would be great to have another national revival before Christ returns. It would be wonderful for America to be a nation where hyphenations are dropped, political parties are secondary, where denominations love and support each other and we don’t look at what income bracket people are in because we, as the King’s children, are only concerned with the furthering of His kingdom! Imagine how many of our unsaved family members and friends would be brought into the kingdom in this America.

Perhaps other states have already joined this movement. If so, will you share that with the readers here? If not, will you contact your church officials in your state?
