Christmas Carols – The Story Behind the Carol – Little Drummer Boy

The Little Drummer Boy as we know it today was composed Henry Onorati and Harry Simeone in 1958, however, the original composition was called “Carol of the Drum and written by Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941. The song was written to meet the needs of an amateur girl’s choir and Ms Davis is thought to have gotten her inspiration from The Oxford Book of Carols by Percy Dearmer, written in 1928 which is a traditional Czech Carol.

You will find an activity to use with the song if you are looking for something to do with young children for Christmas at Activities: Stories: The Little Drummer Boy.

It takes a few moments to get into this one, but it is SO worth the wait!!
