Famous Christmas Carols – Story Behind the Carol – Joy to the World

The beautiful words of “Joy to the World” were written by Isaac Watts. The music is said to have been composed by Handel although there is some controversy surrounding Handel’s authorship, as some say Handel did not compose the music, but that it originated in Syria.

The song was not written originally as a Christmas song, but in anticipation of the joy we will feel when Christ returns to rule and to reign.

I would like each of my readers to visit A Godly Heritage and read the story there. It is beautifully told and I cannot improve upon what has already been done.

There is also another blog that has the Story Behind the Song that you might enjoy as well.

If you do not want to read the story, take a few minutes and just let the words bless you:

Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
