(Have young Christians today ever heard this song? I wonder?)
BIBLE TRUTHS THAT SUPPORT THE LYRICS FOR “ROCK OF AGES.”
The LORD (YHWH) is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 18:2
And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all…But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:5-9
And did all eat the same spiritual meat; and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:3-4
And Jesus said unto them, I am the breadoflife: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst. John 6:35
And some people still do not accept it. If someone offers bread that is guaranteed to make you live forever, or water that one can drink and never thirst again, would anyone turn down such an offer? People do it every day. Perhaps it is because many people prefer doing things their own way rather than His way.
Thereisaway which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Save from wrath and make me pure.
Not the labor of my hands Can fulfill Thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to the cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die.
While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyes shall close in death, [originally When my eye-strings break in death] When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee.
