The Bible Teaches That Life Is In the Blood
When sin entered the world, death also entered, for the wages of sin is death.
The Hebrews first learned of blood that saves when they were told to kill a lamb and place the blood of the lamb over the door post of their homes. On the one night of passover in Egypt, the death angel passed over the land. The first-born son died in every house where there was no blood on the door post, but those who obeyed the LORD were saved by the blood on the lintel or door post.
The Bible teaches us that these knew a day was coming when there would be a lasting covenant written in blood – blood that would save mankind from the death penalty brought on by sin. The prophet Zechariah spoke of it:
As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Zechariah 9:10-11
In Matthew, we learn that this blood is the blood shed by Jesus, the Christ, the promised Messiah and the precious and only Begotten Son of God:
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Christ blood is blood that can cleanse from sin. We have redemption by the blood of Jesus. The Holy Spirit of God bears witness that Jesus our Saviour came by water and by blood to save us. This is why He is called the Lamb of God and is precious in the sight of the Father. Christians are called to serve our living God by the power of the Holy Spirit within, because we are cleansed by His precious blood.
The Bible is true. Scientist know that truly life is in the blood. Doctors are able to help people live longer lives with life-saving transfusions and vaccines and other uses of blood products, but only the blood of Christ our Savior gives eternal life.
