Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Indelible Grace; Sandra McCracken & Derek Webb sing “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Written by Charles Wesley, Hymns for the Nativity of Our Lord (London: William Strahan, 1745) “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” is a perfect song for celebrating the birth of our Savior, yet I do not think I have heard it until now.

As I listen to the voices of Sandra McCracken and Derek Webb, I relate to how people who lived prior to Christ’s birth waited with longing for the Messiah to come and yearned for His appearing, much as we long for His second coming today. How thrilled they must have been when the shepherds and Magi announced that angels and a star had proclaimed His arrival!

Perhaps our generation will see the arrival of Christ coming in clouds of glory!

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

 Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
