Why depending on Donald Trump to correct America’s problems is futile.

Here is a quote from ‘about news’: “There’s no doubt the 2016 Presidential election will be decided by economic issues, just as all the other ones have been.”

Daily Finance says:

In an election year, voters are expected to “vote their pocketbooks” — incumbents tend to win in good economies, and challengers in bad ones. One study published earlier this year argued that “economic and institutional factors [account for] about 75% of the variation of the popular vote in presidential elections since 1916.”

Perhaps it is time we take a look at election results to see if allowing economic issues to decide for whom we will vote has helped or hindered America.

How has this worked out for our country? The new’s reports indicate it isn’t working.

Economy in crisis

Foreign Policy Crisis

Moral crisis in America

America’s Infrastructure Crisis

I think it is precisely because we are voting according to our wallets and the economy, and not by seeking the will of God for our country, that we are in crisis. We forget that unless God blesses America, nothing we do will be effective. If we do not seek the will of the God of our fathers and His blessing, we might as well stay home on election day. Donald Trump’s money and know how will be no more helpful than any past president’s promises have been.

We need to remember what the Lord God said in the book of Haggai:

Haggai 1:9  You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away.

Just as God is able to blow away anything we have, He is also able to break and multiply what we need as Jesus did when he fed the multitudes:

Matthew 14:19  And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Only seeking the will of God will produce any sort of correction in the downward spiral that we are in. God promised the Jewish nation:

Exodus 23:25 You shall serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.

Just as He blesses Israel, there are blessings for those who are ‘in Christ’. Not worldly wealth, but the blessing of knowing that the Lord is with us and that He will take care of all our needs as he takes care of the sparrows. Philippians 4:19

Our needs are for morality and wisdom, not more money to have blown away.

It is my prayer that in 2016 we will not vote according to our pocketbook, but will seek the face and the will of our Creator/Redeemer God.
