The Bible teaches we are not to destroy God’s creation!
NBC news printed an article with the headline: Humans Add to Natural Disaster Risk
Ker Than is right that humans add to natural disaster.
What I would like for us to explore are the reasons behind this. Man’s sinfulness brings destruction. We know that we who know God are to respect the earth because it is a part of God’s creation; it belongs to the Lord.
Psalm 24:1 “A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.”
Here is one thing that Ker Than wrote:
“Drawn by undeveloped land and fertile soil, people are flocking to disaster-prone regions. This creates a situation in which ordinary events like earthquakes and hurricanes become increasingly elevated to the level of natural disasters that reap heavy losses in human life and property. “
Much misery could be avoided if we would read and heed the word of God. For example: God tells his people the soil is to be given a rest every seven years. When we fail to listen, the soil becomes depleted and mankind cannot raise crops in areas that once were fertile. Yet, I believe that ultimately we will find that sin is always behind any destruction of earth and creation. Numbers 33:35 tells us that ‘blood pollutes the land.” Hatred leads to war and war causes blood to be spilled. Sin is a destroyer and leads to destruction of God’s creation.
Other examples of how sin has polluted can be found when we look at drug addiction and immorality. Both lead people to use their time in self-gratification and wasting of precious time – time that could be spent building and not destroying. Sexual immorality and drug use leads to disease and destruction in lives and families.
Greed causes pollution when manufacturers are more concerned with money than they are the safety of workers and the end product they produce. Greed may cause factories to dispose of waste in an unsafe manner. dysfunctional life-styles prevent people from maintaining clean areas. It seems to me no one can question the truth. Satan and sin destroy.
A time of judgement is coming:
“The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.” Revelation 11:18
So much could be avoided by living in obedience to God’s word. Imagine what our world would be like and will be someday when:
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
We can do everything in the name of Jesus only when we have by faith received Him into our hearts and been filled with the power of His Holy Spirit.
