Tenet 3. The Bible cannot be understood accurately except through the publications and teachings of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the official organ of the “faithful and discreet slave” class that Jehovah has appointed to disseminate the true doctrine and to direct the work of the true religion worldwide. wit.irr.org
This is one of the quickest and easiest tenet to disprove. There is NOTHING in all of God’s word that suggest we need literature over and above the Bible to come to know Him and/or the power of His resurrection or that we are forbidden to study alone. The opposite is closer to Biblical truth. Jesus taught that the job of teaching belongs to the Holy Spirit.
THE BIBLE TEACHES
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:28We do need the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 1 John 2:27
It would seem our Lord missed a perfect opportunity to teach Watchtower doctrine at the time John 14 was actually happening IF, indeed, this doctrine were biblical. The truth is, it is not Biblical. The prophets, whom Jesus often quoted had already said:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:31-33
Those with the mind of Christ do not need someone to teach them other than the Holy Spirit of God. He is our Teacher, Counselor, and the Spirit of Truth.
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2
And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
When Paul told Timothy to study to show himself approved, he NEVER suggested that Timothy had to have Paul or anyone else present when the scriptures were studied.
The example of Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch cannot be equated with present day because the Ethiopian did not have the New Testament at that time which teaches the New Covenant and explains the passage in Isaiah that he was reading.
There is nothing in the Bible indicating that we must have a member or any religion, sect, or cult present to teach us so that we may understand true doctrine. The Bible teaches that we have the mind of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
God never directs us to study any specific literature in addition to the Bible and He never mentions any organization that He has ordained other than the body of Christ made up of those who have trusted and received the Lord Jesus Christ. They are never described as an organization and there is no prophecy foretelling a coming organization. Early believers are admonished to continue meeting together as they did in the homes of other believers. Yet, no where in God’s word is private Bible study forbidden or other literature included!
In Hebrews 5:12, those who still need teachers are actually scolded because they have failed to grow and mature as they should in God’s word.
