Protests or Prayers for A Nation Divided?

DIVISION IN AMERICA

After Barack Obama’s election in 2008, there arose a grassroots movement concerned about high taxes in America becoming even higher. This group became known as the ‘Taxed Enough Already’ movement or the TEA party. This is what they say about the movement on their web-site and on Wikipedia:

September 2nd, 2004. Many claim to be the founders of this movement; however, it was the brave souls of the men and women in 1773, known today as the Boston Tea Party, who dared to defy the greatest military might on earth. We are the beneficiaries of their courage.

The movement opposes government-sponsored universal healthcare[3] and has been described as a mixture of libertarian,[4] populist,[5] and conservative activism.

After Donald J. Trump’s election another group has become very active. It is the ‘Organizing for Action’ group by Barack and Michelle Obama. However, it was organized three years before Trump became president

OFA was begun on January 18, 2013 by Chairman Jim Messina (Obama’s 2012 campaign manager)[8] and First Lady Michelle Obama  in order to mobilize support behind the president’s legislative and political agenda.

One question that seems to be relevant is this. If Obama’s term of office is over, why does the OFA still exist? Not being an insider, I only know what is being reported and what seems to be demonstrably true. The group now trains and produces protestors to keep President Trump’s agenda from becoming reality and keep Obama’s legacy in place.

Both groups are politically active, albeit, they have different methods. While the TEA party sometime organizes meetings and rallies they primarily support political candidates and attempt to change election outcomes. OFA organizes protests rallies and encourages members to confront Republican elected officials. Their main goal is to protest and intimidate already elected officials by demanding legislation go their way while the TEA party want to change who is elected.

Both groups are disliked by the other side and demonstrate how divided we are as a country.

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

Jesus did not leave us in doubt. He told us all we need to know about how to fix what ails our country. He told us that we will not continue to exist if the division does not end.

But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. Luke 11:17 Matthew 28:18-19 – And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.

But if we pray, we can be assured that God will hear us.

And He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. Luke 18:1

THE APOSTLES KNEW THE POWER OF PRAYER

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to His will he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

NATIONS SHOULD SERVE GOD

Psalms 33:12 – Blessed [is] the nation whose God [is] the LORD; [and] the people [whom] he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Isaiah 60:12 – For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, [those] nations shall be utterly wasted.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.

CONCLUSION

Political action groups may have a place in society and may do some good, but often do more harm than good. God is not a God of confusion and where there is confusion, we know it is not of God. Prayer on the other hand and obedience to God is always profitable. Americans need to pray.
