Let No One Steal Your HOPE OF HEAVEN – Colossians 1:4-5

With Christ coming to earth, the Kingdom of heaven was at hand.

And (John the Baptist) saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:2

But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens…2 Peter 3:13

Paul taught we have a hope of heaven because of our faith in Christ:

Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, for the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel… Colossians 1:4-5

Watchtower has convinced millions of their followers that they have no hope of going to heaven when they die. One verse they use is Christ saying the ‘meek shall inherit the earth.’ They seem to ignore that in this same sermon Jesus said:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3

Some of the most comforting Scripture passages are those Bible verses about heaven which offer a glimpse into the blessed eternal life that God has promised to all who trust in Jesus.

“to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept IN HEAVEN for you,” 1 Peter 1:4

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19-20

And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 8:11

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.Matthew 10:7

At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-3

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. Matthew 19:21

…so that now through the church the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11according to the purpose of the ages, which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12in whom we have boldness and access in confidence, by faith in Him. 13 Therefore I implore you not to lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 14… for reason of this I bow my knees to the Father, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. Ephesians 3:10-15

Revelation 21:1-5 gives us an assurance that heaven will be a wonderful place for all of God’s people who are ‘in Christ.’ John was given this vision, but Paul also wrote of the wonder of God’s plan for those who trust in Christ:

1 Corinthians 2:9 “But, as it is written, What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him””

Your reading of Revelation 21 is a bit stunted. The Holy City comes to earth. And please consider:
Deut 4:40 Deu 4:40  Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.
How long is the earth given to us? For ever.
And if heaven’s the place to be, why would the meek want to inherit the earth?
You’ll need to further study out “the kingdom of heaven” as different from the actual “heaven” where no man went except He who came from there (John 3:13).

Thank you for responding. You are correct in a portion of what you wrote, but there will be a new earth, as well as a new heaven. The New Jerusalem will also come down:

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.…

Notice that she will be adorned as bride…

There will be a marriage supper, the Lamb (Christ Jesus) and His bride (the church or His body made up of those who have trusted Him)

Look at what will happen to THIS earth –
2 Peter 3: 10 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be dissolved in the fire, and the earth and its works will not be found. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness…”

We see that God is going to provide for those who have been covered by the blood of His precious Son. The Holy Spirit reveals these thing:

1 Corinthians 2:9 “Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.…”

To whom are these promises given? To those who are ‘in Christ.’ The words ‘in Christ’ are found in the New Testament 75 times. Only those ‘in Christ’ are covered under the New Covenant.

Roman 8: 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is ‘in Christ Jesus our Lord’.…”

Search the scriptures. There is no other way to be saved.

      • jennacar says:

Paul never said to search the scriptures to be saved. He said they were profitable for instruction, rebuke, reproof and instruction in righteousness. As far as I can see, you ignore the Scriptures he was talking about. “For ever” is for-ever.

Answer this, if you can: Stephen was brought before the Pharisees who had to “set up false witnesses”–meaning, they paid some folks to lie–saying that Stephen had preached the end of the temple and the perversion of laws given to Moses. Why would they have to hire liars if that’s what the disciples were preaching–that the law had been superseded by this new faith? Surely, they would have preached that HAD that been what they received from Messiah, but it wasn’t. If that’s what they were preaching, it would have been simple to find somebody–even themselves–who had heard that.

      • jlue says:

Christ, who established the law, did not supersede the law! He fulfilled the law. We can never do that, but Christ, our righteousness, is able.

Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but rto fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, suntil heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

I will continue later today and fully answer all you asked.

      • jlue says:

Paul did not say “search the scriptures…”, Jesus did.

      • jlue says:

Actually Christ did supersede the law. He was in the beginning!

      • jennacar says:

Yes, He IS the Word. But do you Christians even understand that–can you fully take that in??? Or is it just some spiritualizing by the Apostle John? No, He also abides by it. He didn’t rise until the first day of that next week because He kept the Sabbath. He abides by it: A woman could not return to a husband so Israel had no way back to Him. Do you even understand the Peter’s vision–the one Christians claim was about food–even though Peter doesn’t leave it to your intepretation at all–was 10 YEARS after the resurrection? Wasn’t he pretty stupid to keep the food guidelines that long after they had been disqualified? No, because they have never been disqualified. Why did Paul hurry to Jerusalem for the feast? That was quite some time after the resurrection, as well, but the church he wrote that to didn’t need any explanation. But if you think it’s okay for a pagan sun-worshiper named Constantine to change the faith for you, then it seems to me like you’re following him, not the one who kept all the instructions of our Creator.

      • jlue says:

In response to your belief – “ Peter’s vision–the one Christians claim was about food–“ I’m not sure who is giving you information about Christians, however, I can assure you Christians understand that the vision was to show Peter that the gospel is for Gentiles as well as Jews. While it is true that Christ fulfilled the law and took upon Himself the sins of the world, which would include breaking the law by eating that which was declared unclean, the deeper spiritual lesson was that ‘ in Christ’:
Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

You can’t be expected to know what Christians understand concerning the Word, so I see no reason to discuss that with you.

As for Stephen, you asked why they needed false witnesses. Here is why – Stephen was brought before the unbelieving Jewish Council. He was charged with blasphemy against Moses and God. Stephen had not done that. Stephen spoke against Jews who persecuted the prophets and those who in his own day resisted the Holy Spirit who revealed the gospel and identity of Jesus Christ to men. Stephen had not blasphemed, so Jews hired false witnesses.

As to your accusation about Constantine. If you accuse Christians for believing the Bible, I suggest several things. Read and believe Isaiah 40:7 and Hebrews 4:12. Trust that the Almighty, I AM, YHWH preserved His word and came as the Word.

Jesus is living truth and Scripture is written truth. If these are not YOUR standard, what is?
