Old Testament references to YHWH seen in Christ…

We are told to search the scriptures. In these, we find Christ the Messiah revealed. We are accountable to the Father concerning His Son and what we teach others. Dare we do less than search?

2 Corinthians 1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not “Yes and no,” but in him is “Yes.”

Why have those theologians who study diligently, declared that Christ is a member of the Godhead, YHWH, who is One God revealed in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Here is a portion of what is found in scripture that shows Christ as YHWH.

3For I will proclaim the name of YHWH
Ascribe greatness to our God! Deuteronomy 32:3

Isaiah 41:4 Who has worked and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, YHWH, the first, and with the last, I am He.5 The islands have seen, and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach, and come.

Revelation 1:12 I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. Having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands.13 And among the lampstands was one like a son of man, clothed with a robe reaching down to his feet, and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 His head and his hair were white as white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace. His voice was like the voice of many waters. 16He had seven stars in his right hand. Out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man. He laid his right hand on me, saying, “Don’t be afraid. I am the first and the last, 18 and the Living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.

1 Chronicles 16:33  Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before YHWH, for He comes to judge the earth.

1 Timothy 4:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom:..

2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will consume with the breath of His mouth and will annul by the appearing of His coming…

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”

John 8:58“Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

Now this is his name by which he will be called: THE LORD (YHWH) OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS (Jeremiah 23:6).

1  Corinthians 1:30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Who is the KING of GLORY?

Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, you gates! Be lifted up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. 8 Who is the King of glory? YHWH strong and mighty, YHWH mighty in battle.

John 1:14, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

1 Corinthians 2:8 None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

1 Timothy 1:17All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:14 Keep this commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring about in His own time— He who is blessed and the only Sovereign One, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16 He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.…

Revelation 19:11 Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war.12He has eyes like blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name written on Him that only He Himself knows. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God. 14The armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and pure, follow Him on white horses. 15 And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter.  He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. 16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:

King of kings and Lord of lords.

Isaiah 47:4 Our Redeemer, YHWH of Armies is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

Isaiah 43:11 ”I myself am Yahweh; and besides me there is no savior.”

Titus 1: 3 “In His own time, He has revealed His message in the proclamation entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior. 4 To Titus, my true child in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.…”

LORD of Hosts – YHWH of Hosts

Isaiah 47:4 Our Redeemer, YHWH of Armies is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

Revelation 19: 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse! Its rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, wearing fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name inscribed, ‘King of kings and Lord of lords’ .

PSALM 102: 24 I said, “My God, don’t take me away in the midst of my days. Your years are throughout all generations. 25 Of old, you laid the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They will perish, but you will endure. Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment. You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.27 But you are the same. Your years will have no end.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever… Colossians 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in Him all things were created, things in heaven andon earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers orauthorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Jeremiah 27:5 By My great power and outstretched ARM, I made the earth and the men and beasts on the face of it, and I give it to whom I please.

Isaiah 53:1 Who has believed our message? And to whom has the ARM of the LORD (YHWH) been revealed?

John 12:37-38 Although Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still did not believe in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the ARM of the Lord been revealed?”

For I will proclaim the name of YHWH. Ascribe greatness to our God! He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He. Deuteronomy 32:4

I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ [anointed]. — 1 Corinthians 10:1-4.

And many nations shall be joined to Yahveh in that day and shall be My people, and I will dwell in your midst (cp. Zech. 2:10), and you shall know that Yahveh of hosts sent Me to you (cp. Zech. 2:9).

Note the two persons identified by the name Yahveh (יהוה). The one who sends is the Father, and the one who is sent to dwell among Israel is the Son. This theme is especially emphasized in the Gospel and Epistles of John (cp. John 1:14; John 8:42; 1 John 4:14). Christianity
