Questions 10 and 11 of Stay Faithful Through the “Great Tribulation”

Lift up your heads, for your redemption draws nigh…Luke 21:28

QUESTION 10 of Watchtower Lesson.

10. As foretold at Luke 21:25-28, how will most of mankind react to what happens during the great tribulation?

10 Read Luke 21:25-28. During the great tribulation, people will be shocked as they see everything that they once thought to be so stable in the world begin to fail. They will be in “anguish,” fearing for their very lives as they enter the darkest period of human existence. (Zeph. 1:14, 15) At that time, life will likely get more difficult even for Jehovah’s people. Because we remain no part of the world, we may suffer some hardships. We may have to go without certain necessities.

It is certainly true that this will be a period of great fear, suffering and anguish as never experienced before on earth. The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ teaches from chapter 6:1 to 18:24 about the coming tribulation and suffering of those who have rejected YHWH. YHWH reveals Himself in Christ. Judgement will come upon all who reject Christ as Savior, Redeemer, Immanuel. Glory goes to the Creator, the One on the throne and the Lamb. God brings judgement on those who have rejected The Way. (Revelation 4, 7, 14, 19, 20) Those who testified for Christ were beheaded on earth, but they and those who were faithful during the tribulation will reign with Him throughout the millennium…

“…And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them, and the souls of those having been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who did not worship the beast, nor his image, and did not take the mark upon the forehead, and upon their hand. And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.  Revelation 20:4

QUESTION 11 of Watchtower lesson.

11. (a) Why will Jehovah’s Witnesses become the center of attention? (b) Why do we not need to fear the great tribulation?

11 At some point, the people whose religions were destroyed may resent the fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses keep practicing their religion. We can only imagine the uproar that this might create, including on social media. The nations and their ruler, Satan, will hate us for having the only surviving religion. They will not have attained their goal to eliminate all religion from the face of the earth. So we will become the center of their attention. At this point, the nations will take on the role of Gog of Magog. * They will band together to make a vicious, all-out attack on Jehovah’s people. (Ezek. 38:2, 14-16) It can be somewhat unsettling to think about those possibilities when we cannot be certain of the exact details. However, one thing is sure: We do not need to fear the great tribulation. Jehovah will give us lifesaving instructions. (Ps. 34:19) We will be able to “stand up straight and lift up [our] heads” because we will know that our “deliverance is getting near.”

Jesus is certainly coming again to redeem His people. This is true. I have never read in scripture any mention of an organization called “Jehovah’s Witnesses.” In fact, only on earth are organizations joined. There are many, some godly, some not. I think of, in addition to Watchtower, there are Gideons, Masons, Elks, Optimists, and hundreds of others.  Christ, however, established His church. We do not join it, we are added to it by the Lord as we are being saved. (Acts 2:47)

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and firstborn from among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:15-20

The church will be taken out at the time of the first resurrection and I think the focus will then be on the elect of God who are saved out of the tribulation. So the question is who are the elect? See scriptures that speak of the ‘elect.’

Those who are identified with Christ by His name will be hated:

Then will they deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of My name. Matthew 24:9

I fail to see where anyone will be hated for practicing religion. People will be hated because they take the name of Christ. The religion on earth that is dominant will be the worship of the Beast according to Revelation 13:10.

According to Revelation 20, the Battle of Gog and Magog occurs at the end of the millennium.

And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:7-10

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Son of Man) is going to return to redeem His own, so we who believe should all look up because our redemption does draw nearer with each passing moment!

“…And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity, sea roaring and surge rolling, men fainting from fear and expectation of that which is coming on the earth. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then will they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory. And of these things beginning to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” Luke 21:25-28

The thing Jesus NEVER SAID is that He would return for those who faithfully practice religion or attend meetings. Instead He is returning for:

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and to them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin to salvation.  Hebrews 9:28

“For our conversation is in heaven; from where also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:..Philippians 3:20

”For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us that, having denied ungodliness and worldly passions, we should live discreetly and righteously and piously in the present age, awaiting the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and might purify to Himself a people specially chosen, zealous of good works..” Titus 2:11-14

Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each as is his work.  13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” 14 Blessed are those washing their robes, that their right will be to the tree of life, and they shall enter into the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the sexually immoral, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and everyone loving and practicing falsehood. 16 “I,  Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to all of you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.” 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And the one hearing, let him say, “Come!” And the one thirsting let him come; the one desiring, let him take freely the water of life. 18 I testify to everyone hearing the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone should add to these things, God will add unto him the plagues having been written in this book. 19 And if anyone should take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, of those having been written in this book. 20 The One testifying these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21 Tohe grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen

1 Response to Questions 10 and 11 of Stay Faithful Through the “Great Tribulation”

  1. jlue says:

This post addresses the ‘elect’ and religion on earth during the tribulation period. Regrettably, I left out two important teachings. Read these verses and ask, “Will Christ be looking for religion or faith?

Luke 18:7 “Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He continue to defer their help? 8 I tell you, He will promptly carry out justice on their behalf. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?” 9 To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable:…”

    Hebrews 10:23-26
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) …”
