“This is the declaration of YHWH to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool.”…YHWH has sworn an oath and will not take it back: “Forever, You are a priest like Melchizedek.””
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭110:1, 4‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

JESUS is the only priest who is a priest forever.

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even as far as the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrows, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom is our reckoning. Therefore having a great high priest having passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, we should hold firmly to our confession. Hebrews 4:12-14

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” Hebrews 4:14

Christ came, (Emmanuel, God with us), was willing to humble Himself and become as one of us that we might become joint heirs with Him. No created being could do what Christ has done – He serves as the last Prophet, our eternal High Priest, and King!

Aaron and his sons were appointed as the priestly order and were forerunners preparing us for our ‘forever Priest.’

““Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. Clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he can serve Me as a priest. Have his sons come forward and clothe them in tunics. Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve Me as priests. Their anointing will serve to inaugurate a permanent priesthood for them throughout their generations.””
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭40:12-15‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by Him who said to Him,
“You are my Son, today I have begotten you” Hebrews 5:4-5

But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. (Heb. 9:11–14)

We need a Priest to intercede for us. Our God is a consuming fire, Moses and Aaron interceded as earthly prophets and priests for Israel, lest the people be consumed. Today, as well, we must have an Intercessor.

See TABLETALK where we read, “No one can approach God without a mediator. It is for this reason that the High Priesthood of Jesus Christ is one of the most glorious truths in all of God’s revelation in Scripture. Christ’s role as the High Priest of believers has a far-reaching impact on our Christian lives and experiences.‘

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:5-6‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Jesus Christ came in the confines of time and a human body to die for our sins. He was resurrected and restored to His former place. In Acts chapter two, Peter explains that Christ came, died, and was resurrected. He came to save us. Christ came into a body that He might live and be tempted as we are. He lived a sinless life that He might intercede for us forever. The writer of Hebrews added:

“Therefore, as He was coming into the world, He said: You did not want sacrifice and offering, but You prepared a body for Me. You did not delight in whole burnt offerings and sin offerings. Then I said, “See — it is written about Me in the volume of the scroll — I have come to do Your will, God! ”…By this will of God, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins. But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. He is now waiting until His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after He says: This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws on their hearts and write them on their minds, He adds: I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts. Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. Therefore, brothers, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way He has opened for us through the curtain (that is, His flesh ), and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:5-7, 10-23‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

We should give thanks for this great High Priest!
