These things are given and certain…

In today’s political climate, most people are not sure who or what to believe. Photos and videos are doctored so that the real might appear indistinguishable from the false. Media is repeatedly caught lying. What are we to do? We know to rely on truth, but how are we to know truth?

Here is the place to begin. We can know ultimate truth and subsequently be guided into all truth!

“Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32‬ ‭

However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. John 16:13

Four times Paul tells us that we are not to be deceived. These admonitions are found in Galatians 6:7, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 1 Corinthians 16:33, and James 1:16.

There are three sources of absolute Truth.

Even those who are not religious should be relieved to know that absolute truth is available. The standard for truth is found in the Holy Bible.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

John 16:13 However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

The opposite is the reality for lies. Satan is the father of all lies and there is no truth in him. Those who reject Christ are actually Satan’s children. They have rejected Christ and in doing so, they reject truth.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Therefore it says: “Having ascended on high, He led captive captivity, and gave gifts to men.” Ephesians 4:7-8

Searching scriptures reveals many promises on which we who live by faith may rely. Here are a few…

1) In Christ we will eventually overcome the trials and tribulations of the world.

  • John 16:33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”

2) Persecution for living righteous lives in Christ is a cause for rejoicing because it proves the person being persecuted will have eternal peace with Christ.

  • 1 Peter 4:14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

3) Death is not the end.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:55 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

4) God cares for His own.

  •  Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

5) In Christ there is forgiveness and victory over sin.

  • Jeremiah 31:43 …they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares YHWH. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

  • Romans 8:1,37 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
