“He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man planted in his field. Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.””
Matthew 13:31-32 BSB

How is the Kingdom of Heaven like a Mustard Seed? Jesus reminded His listeners that while it is the smallest of seeds in a garden, the mustard seed grows into the largest of plants and becomes a tree where birds find shelter. It seems this parable is true on many levels. God’s kingdom has grown steadily since the first person placed their faith in the coming Messiah. The Kingdom flourished in the years after the resurrection of Christ our Messiah and King. I suggest there is another aspect to this parable as well.
Jesus said to those living in Israel during His visitation on earth in human form that the Kingdom of heaven had come near them. (Matthew 4:14) A kingdom is ruled by a King. Almighty God revealed in the Revelation of Jesus that this same Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. (Revelation 19:16) All power has been given unto Him. Jesus was considered just a small man on earth yet He became the Chief Cornerstone, (Ephesians 2:20), the greatest of all.

So how is the Kingdom of Heaven like a tiny mustard seed? Perhaps Jesus was saying that just as the seed appeared tiny and perhaps insignificant to some, when He was born, He was tiny and Mary took care of Him as if He had no power. Yet by Him, all the nations of the world may be blessed and as birds rest in a Mustard Tree, the people of earth may rest in Christ.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”Matthew 28:18-20
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,…Revelation 5:9
The prophet Zechariah prophesied about that day. Time centers around Christ Jesus. The culmination of all things will be His return. The Bible was written to reveal to mankind His plan to save us from sin and self. I hope you will be standing with the ransomed! Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. Speaking of Jesus, John, called the Baptizer, said:
The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all. John 3:31
