What Does It Mean to Be ‘In Christ?’

The phrase ‘in Christ’ occurs 76 times in the New Testament. ‘In Christ Jesus’ is found 40 times. A definite (and definitely important) statement was written to the church at Corinth:

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22

Those in Christ are not condemned, but are

made alive!

A person ‘in Christ’ is secure!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans‬ ‭8:38-39‬ ‭BSB‬‬

With such wonderful hope, it is necessary to know and to teach others, what it means to be ‘in Christ.’

BY FAITH

See Also – About Faith

“Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” Galatians‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭BSB‬‬

All who come to Christ must have belief, or faith, in Him. We place ourselves in His care by believing the gospel. The gospel teaches that we are saved when we trust Him and acknowledge that He alone can make us righteous before a holy God!

“But the Scripture pronounces all things confined by sin, so that by faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:22, 26‬ ‭BSB‬‬

The book of Acts is a treatise on how this happens:

“…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Once Christ established His church, those who believed became a part of Christ body. We know this because Christ is the head of the church and all members make up Christ’s body.

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and firstborn from among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence.” Colossians‬ ‭1:15-18‬ ‭BSB‬‬

“The body is a unit, though it is composed of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink. For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:12-14‬ ‭BSB‬‬

We are placed in the body of Christ, (in Christ), when we look to Him, believing the gospel; ie, that He is the Son of God who emptied Himself, came to earth, and took our sins upon Himself that we might have life, was crucified, and that he is resurrected and coming again.
