Edward vs Aguillard ruling states Creation Science a sham.

  1. While visiting The Panda’s Thumb recently, I found this written within a post:

This should be of broad interest: a symposium at Stanford School of Law on the 1987 Supreme Court decision Edwards v. Aguillard. This is the decision that ruled “creation science” to be a sham devised to promote religion in the classroom. And, of course, the decision led directly to the decision to drop creationist terminology and adopt “intelligent design” terminology.

When checking out the Edward vs Aguillard ruling, the judges did not find creation science to be a sham. Instead they ruled creationism advances a particular religion.

Edwards vs. Aguillard was a legal case about the teaching of creationism that was heard by the Supreme Court of the United States in 1987. The Court ruled that a Louisiana law requiring that creation science be taught in public schools, along with evolution, was unconstitutional because the law was specifically intended to advance a particular religion.

This ruling should be challenged. Creationism does not teach one religion.

There are those on Panda’s Thumb that seem to believe that only “fundamentalist Christians” believe in Creation.

This is both false and misleading. There are tenets in the Jewish faith, the Mormon faith, and the Islamic faith teaching that God is the Creator. Even Watchtower acknowledges creation. There are Christians who belong to the Catholic church and many protestants who do not consider themselves “fundamentalist” who believe in creation. While, at this time, the political winds are blowing in favor of censoring those who believe, I do not think this will always be the case. The human mind is able to think independently of political correctness. Origins may be discussed with only one viewpoint, but there will always be those who appear to capitulate outwardly while considering other possibilities. This one ruling may have silenced some and denied others the right to hear about creation; however, it is my opinion that the Edwards vs Aguillard case should be retried due to this invalid statement upon which they based the ruling.

As for we who are Christian, we know this generation will not have the final word:

Be not deceived, God is not mocked…” Galatians 6:7

The final word is God’s!

As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven… 2 Samuel 22:31
